Toad on Lotusleaf by Cornel Schneider

Postby Ford » Sun Aug 28, 2011 6:48 am

I've been a bit slow in getting this shown here but Cornel completed this amazing piece a couple of weeks ago. As expected he continues to amaze with his staggering devotion to realism.

“ Toad on Lotusleaf “.

All is carved out from one piece of box, each dewdrop is

turned and polished on the lathe. The case is also turned from

a piece of acrylglass, the waves are carved and polished.

Besides the mind-boggling realism, I like the use of acrylic.

I really like the success you've had conveying the weight of the toad on the floating leaf.

What's the overall size...the diameter of the case?

Cornel:

Absolutely beautiful. I don't usually like dewdrops, and I realized after looking at this piece, it was because they are usually not well rendered. In this piece, they really work, and really work well. I love the way the toad's weight is pressing down the lotus leaf, and the look of the acrylic water under them. Every piece you do is more extraordinary than the last.

Debbie:

Warmest Thank for your compliment :) The dewdrops were the
ignition to this composition. There are so many exciting examples
what wonderful pictures dewdrops can create......an early-morning
spiderweb with thousands of small waterpearls, at example.
That would be a really challenge to create.........

Doug:

I am delighted to read from You, also Thank You for your comment :)
The diameter of the leaf is 90mm, lenght of toad is 46mm and the
diameter of the acryl-case is 128mm.

I wish You both a very creative time !!!

Cornel,

Your work is extraordinary! I ran across one of your pieces many years ago, and was jaw-dropping amazed then, and I am even more amazed now.

What an inspiration it is, and something for me to aim for in my own works - but likely fall far short of and still greatly improve what I am currently doing now.

Hey Christophe,

I glad you appreciate the work  I try to help out where it's needed and old Cornel is a bit of a technophobe but it's important his work is seen as it inspires people. ;) and if this forum becomes a platform to promotes great work and art then we all benefit. :cloud9:
