PostPosted: Wed May 12, 2010 7:34 am

hello everyone.
I am a graphic designer, I'm 39 years old and I am fascinated by Japanese art and am very interested in the Shinto religion. This is my first netsuke, There are of bone and ebony except the Daruma is warthog ivory and ebony. I started two tsuba but have not yet finished them. I paint, I burn wood metal (a bit) and I make knives

Bonjour Christophe,
I like the carvings of yours, the daruma in particular.

Just two more notes , a light staining of the flower netsuke might help to give this piece more depth. The second comment is a concern regading the little skull you have carved. Some studies of old carvings of the subject and studies of real skulls may help to avoid something that could be seen as a cliché piece. :Peace:

Welcome aboard Christophe, thank you for posting your images.. I hope you become a regular forum member.

I think you've made a terrific start with these pieces.. they show a particular sensitivity to the material and finish which is very promising. I would certainly like to encourage you to continue, perhaps taking greater inspiration directly from nature and creating your own design. I think such direct nature studies would take advantage of the areas in your work that are the most evolved at this present time while allowing you to explore technique in more depth.

Please keep on posting as you progress

Kindest Regards
Clive

hello all
this is my last netsuke it remains to be attached to the back of netsuke, but I do not know how to do (in kagamibuta? the home) and my tools, the handles are bamboo, easier for the sharpening, lighter, first tests Kumihimo with a small German machine, very easy with this mobidai, soon

a very good book "netzuké wandering" Francis storno
I'm just understanding the subtleties of the art of netsuke and Japanese art in general, and I expect a book on Japanese manufacturing netsuke 木 で 彫る 根付 入門 by Tadashi Nakagawa

(I think the flowers turned out beautiful, and it's been interesting to watch their evolution. Thanks for showing the progression.)
