Hello from Sussex

Postby Victoria » Fri Jun 17, 2016 10:12 am

Hello! My name is Victoria.

I'm currently a student in metalwork conservation, though I'm approaching the end of the course at the moment. My background before starting metalwork and conservation in 2014 is in the art, language and culture of early medieval Northern Europe, all things Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian. I've always been a creative person, drawing etc. but not had the chance to do much metalwork before starting this particular course that I'm on. Anyway, I've had a taste, and I'm hooked by its magic, and am very keen to learn more and develop my skills. We had to do a project last year on a decorative technique, with practical and written work, and I picked wire inlay, which was how I found this forum, and got started on the particular fascination for Japanese metalwork, which has led to a masters thesis on the effects of electrolytic reduction of iron in the presence of silver wire inlay... I also conserved a nunome zogan export cigarette case which only fanned the flames of curiosity and intrigue... Maybe I'll post a picture of it when I figure out how...

When I'm not in the workshop, I make chain mail (mostly jewellery but I'm keen to make some riveted just because...), do photography and drawing, taekwondo, play the violin (which could explain why I can't file flat), and occasionally ride horses. I'm aiming to explore the wealth of information on the site and learn as much as I can, and then get going with some making of my own.

Thank you for letting me join what seems like a really lovely community here!

Sussex, conservation - West Dean?

Wotcher from another equestrian (well, mostly I'm there to feed them sweets as far as they're concerned). Like the violin/filing excuse, I ought to dig mine out again.
